Meet our sponsors - 1080

At Grosvenor we greatly value the generous support of our sponsors and in a new feature we share with members some details of our sponsors' businesses. This week we feature 1080 and we caught up with Paul Black, Group Chief Executive, to tell us a little about their success story.

Who are 1080?

1080 is the design led ‘brand’ contained within the Alpha Group, which looks at how clients work spaces can be evolved into exciting and vibrant places for their teams to aspire to work. We have been trading for almost 50 years, and employ in excess of 100 people. We are proudly headquartered in Belfast, where all of our main central services are based.

What do you do?

Basically we supply everything and anything from a chair right up to a full fit-out involving aircon, lighting, floor coverings, decoration and of course furniture.

What makes you special/different?

I think because of our scale, and also being in Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow and Oxford, we can offer tailor made solutions for our clients regardless of size of project, or location. We have a very strong wholesale side to our business which supplies around 200 retailers who promote some of our brands and are able to give a hands on service as part of their business model. This area of business, alongside the project led work means that we have expertise in many areas that we can bring to the fore depending on client requirements.

An interesting fact about your business?

The Alpha Group would be Ireland’s largest office furniture only suppliers, and we also have our own in house factory which makes 500 chairs and around 200 items of steel storage per week. Alpha also has two joint venture steel storage manufacturing operations based in Dubai and just outside Kuala Lumpur. We have a large client who is based in Brisbane who imports around 3 containers per week of our steel storage into Australia.

Key clients have you worked with/examples of your work

Some of our key project wins over the recent past include Allstate’s new Mays Meadow offices, NI Chamber of Commerce, Queens and Ulster Universities, Central Bank of Ireland’s new offices in Dublin, Scottish Power’s new HQ in Glasgow, Boeing/MOD JV for new submarine hunter base in Lossiemouth, Danske Bank HQ in Donegal Sq, Universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Strathclyde. We have also been fortunate to win, and successfully deliver furniture to a number of overseas government projects in Abuja, Kathmandu, Paris and Dominican Republic.

A point gained or four points lost?

On the coldest rugby day this season so far, Grosvenor and Dromore RFC played out an entertaining game of rugby in dry but stormy conditions. I think Grosvenor will view this game as one they could an
